I first became interested in public relations because I enjoyed writing and looking at how communication can help someone in real life scenarios. I’ve always been good at verbal and written communication throughout my schooling, and wanted to find a way to implement these skills into something I loved. That’s how I happened upon public relations in college. It seemed fitting for me, getting to use the written word to communicate on behalf of a group. It seemed like something I’d be good at.
My other interest had always been makeup and the beauty world. The craft and the products fascinated me. I would spend hours watching countless makeup and beauty related videos like the one down below. I would teach myself the new trends of makeup and would save up to buy new products. Alongside the products, I found the dynamics of the companies and brands to be so interesting. I was fascinated with how the companies worked with other people to promote their unique brand.
Within such a booming industry is a booming PR industry. Many beauty companies use countlessPR tactics in their brands. I love getting to see the things I’ve learned in my PR classes being put to use in real life as beauty brands tackle difficult issues or promote new products.
Many people think a PR practitioners job is simply putting together PR packages for influencers, but as companies have proven its so much more. Its more than just crisis management, and its more than just posts to social media. Those that run PR for beauty brands are responsible for the overall image of a brand and how this gets communicated to the public. That, in its entirety, is what I’d love to do one day. I’d like to be that middle man for a beauty brand one day, using PR tactics to communicate for a brand effectively to the public.
this is a great blog and honestly so inspiring. The way you are able to mix your passions together into the field of PR is super cool. You are going to do great things in the PR world!
I really like how you connected PR to your personal interests. I've never thought about the different personalities of makeup brands and their specific styles when it comes to PR. I agree with you that there is a lot that goes into PR not just social media posts.
I think it was cool how you set up the Middle Man concept on the blog and implementing the idea only at the end. PR has a function in almost every industry I'm glad you found what you want to do in the future. I also couldn't agree more on the idea that PR is more than just crisis management and promoting.
Really insightful. I love how you included your personal journey into PR!
